Perfect First Date
Wow, I haven’t thought about first dates for over 4 years! Judd and I met Feb 2007 and that was my very last first date ever (and I don’t plan on having another). How about I talk about my favorite first date.. Unfortunately it wasn’t with Judd but it was a good first date story.
October 2006-
My mom and a friend she sang with decided that they needed to set their children up on a blind date. I actually like blind dates. I think they are fun! You get to meet someone totally new! They don’t know you and you don’t know them so you can’t have a predetermined idea about one another. You can start over brand new with this person. They don’t know what you were like in high school, you don’t know what you were like in college, they don’t know about previous boyfriends and you don’t know anything about their family. Back to the date. I later found out that he didn’t actually want to go on a date with me, he isn’t as big of a fan of blind dates as I am! I guess he has had some bad luck with blind dates. Well, come to find out I actually knew his little brother, he is just a year younger than me and we were friends in high school. His brother found out who his mom was trying to set him up with and told him that he should take me out. J So he called me and we decided on a day and time. I can’t remember the day anymore.. I just remember it was the October before I met Judd. What I didn’t realize until after was that he lived in South Ogden.. So he drove from South Ogden to pick me up, then we drove back to South Ogden for dinner and bowling and then he drove me home after. Lots of driving! Poor kid.
Here is the actual date story. He picked me up at like 5 and we went to dinner at a Japanese Restaurant down there. I don’t know the name of it but it is a set up like Tepanyaki, where you sit at the grill and they guy cooks in front of you. I had never been to a restaurant like that so I was VERY impressed. He was really fun to talk to. We got along great. He talked about loving to go hiking and fishing. I have never really been fishing so I mentioned fishing would be fun and that I also like to go on hikes, which I do.. short ones; this was a BAD IDEA-Date #2 was a big fat long hike and fishing! Another thing we had talked about was things we want to do before we die, a bucket list if you will. I told him that I had always wanted to go on a Hot Air Balloon ride; this caused Date #3-Park City for a Hot Air Balloon Ride! After dinner we decided to go bowling. He had been bragging that he was a great bowler so I was thinking ‘Perfect, I’m going to look like an idiot.’ I like to bowl but I’m not very good. He let me go first and for the first couple frames I was doing pretty well.. at least I thought I was. Of course he was doing better but I was holding my own. Well on one of my turns I slipped a little (stupid bowling shoes!) and he laughed and laughed at me. I was pretty embarrassed, oh well! Now it was his turn. Guess what happened? He ended up slipping except he fell flat on his butt! I have never seen someone so embarrassed in my life. I was laughing so hard I thought I was going to wet my pants! It was just the greatest moment of Karma. After bowling he took me home. We had fun and did go on some more dates but we ended up being better friends then anything. Right after we quit dating I met Judd so I guess it was a good thing going on a blind date. Set me up perfectly to meet the man of my dreams, father of my children and eternal companion!
